Overview
This project will make improvements to approximately 5.2 miles of the I-43 Rock Freeway, between WIS 83 in Mukwonago and WIS 20 in Easy Troy, in Waukesha and Walworth Counties.
Proposed Improvements
The project includes pavement replacement along I-43 within the project limits (WIS 83 to WIS 20), including interchange service ramps at WIS 20 and the southern half of WIS 83 (6 total ramps). Other improvements include:
- Structure improvements to many of the bridges along the corridor
- Construction of dual left turn lane at southbound I-43 ramp to WIS 83
- Culvert pipe repair/replacement
- Guardrail replacement
- Curb ramp replacement at WIS 83 ramp
- Signal improvements at the I-43 and WIS 83 interchange
- Replace existing signing and pavement marking
Public Involvement
WisDOT hosted a public involvement meeting on November 21, 2024 at the East Troy Village Hall to discuss the proposed improvements. Materials and exhibits shared at the meeting are posted below to help give more opportunity for public feedback.
As the project continues to move forward, your input is welcomed and appreciated throughout the design process.
Traffic Impacts
I-43 will remain open with stages construction. Crossovers or temporary widenings will be used to maintain flow of traffic along I-43. Temporary ramp closures will be needed to accommodate ramp construction. Any ramp closures will include posted detours.
Schedule
Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2027. Construction could be moved to 2026 if additional funding becomes available.
