Overview
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works are proposing improvements to approximately 1 mile of WIS 32 (South 1st Street) in the City of Milwaukee. The purpose of this project is to provide long-term improvements to the pavement, operation, and safety of the roadway. Proposed improvements include:
- Replace entire pavement structure from West Lapham Boulevard to Florida Street
- Replace curb ramps to meet ADA standards
- Update traffic signals
- Evaluate dedicated bus or bicycle facilities
Schedule
Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2030.
Public Involvement
WisDOT will hold an open-house public involvement meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025 at Independence First (540 S. 1st St.) in Milwaukee from 4 to 6 p.m. for the public to learn more about the proposed improvements, get questions answered, and provide input to the project team. Meeting materials will be posted to the website after the meeting.
