study map

Overview

The purpose of the proposed project is to rehabilitate 11 structures over I-43 from N. Halyard Street to W. Capitol Drive in Milwaukee County.

This project includes:

  • Bearing replacement
  • Steel girder repair
  • Painting
  • Deck replacement
  • Expansion joint replacement
  • Bridge overlays
  • New retaining wall
  • Railing replacement
  • Curb ramp updates
  • Pavement rehabilitation
  • Lighting and signal improvements

Traffic Impacts

Lane closures will be needed on Fond Du Lac Avenue, North Avenue, 7th Street, Keefe Avenue and Capitol Drive. Halyard Street and eastbound Keefe Avenue will be closed when work is being done in these areas. Efforts will be made to minimize traffic impacts, including congestion, delays, and queuing. Impacts to transit may involve temporarily closing or relocating bus stops. Accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists will be provided.

Public Involvement

WisDOT hosted two in-person public involvement meetings for this project in September 2025. Public involvement is a critical part of all WisDOT projects. The meetings were an opportunity for members of the community to meet with project staff and view project materials. The same information will be displayed at both meetings, with materials available below.
