Project Overview:
The slope on the east side of WIS 57, just south of the Ozaukee/Sheboygan County line (County K), has had ongoing erosion since it was constructed in 2001. This project will make improvements to stabilize this slope.
Proposed Improvements:
A geotechnical exploration was conducted on the slope to identify the best solution. Proposed recommended approaches include:
- Reinforced soil slope
- Vertical rigid elements (miniature pilings driven into the embankment to strengthen the slope)
- Earth anchors (anchors buried in the embankment with cables tied to matting with plantings on the embankment slope surface)
Traffic Impacts:
Single lane and shoulder closures are anticipated for pavement and median work. This project will require full closures of northbound WIS 57 to replace a culvert and access the top of the slope repair area. A detour will be posted during the northbound closures.
Schedule:
This project is scheduled to begin in late 2025.
