WIS 165 Median Reconfiguration - Kenosha County

A map showing median reconfiguration project at the intersection of WIS 165 and Jelly Belly Lane/72nd Avenue in Kenosha County.

Overview

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is proposing a median reconfiguration project at the intersection of WIS 165 and Serpe Way/72nd Avenue in Kenosha County. This project is designed to improve safety at the intersection.

Proposed Improvements

  • Build a reconfigured raised median to prevent turning movements related to a high number of crashes at the WIS 165 and Serpe Way/72nd Avenue intersection.
  • The new raised island will prevent traffic from turning left onto WIS 165 from Serpe Way/72nd Avenue. The median will also prevent traffic from making a through movement on Serpe Way/72nd Avenue.

Public Involvement

Public involvement is an important part of all WisDOT projects. If you have comments or questions regarding this project, please contact the project team representatives listed below by October 17, 2025.

Traffic Impacts

  • During construction, WIS 165 will remain open to traffic and access to local businesses will be maintained.
  • The median will be closed during construction and traffic will be shifted away from the work area.
  • Serpe Way/72nd Avenue will remain open to the north and south of WIS 165.

Schedule

This project is in the design phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
