Location
WIS 13 (8th Street South) from Lakewood Lane to Whitrock Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids in Wood County
Overview
To address pavement deficiencies and improve safety, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:
- Replacing the existing concrete pavement with new base course and hot-mix asphalt pavement
- Replacing existing curb and gutter
- Evaluating traffic signals and repairing or replacing them as needed at the intersections of WIS 13/County Z (Griffith Avenue) and WIS 13/Kuhn Avenue
- Evaluating the existing pedestrian curb ramps and repairing or replacing then with Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant ramps
- Removing or modifying the existing storm sewer network to match the final roadway/curb and gutter elevations
WisDOT also is considering:
- Evaluating the WIS 13/County Z (Griffith Avenue) intersection for traffic flow
- Extending the sidewalk from the existing limits approximately 200 feet south of County Z (Griffith Avenue) on the east side of WIS 13 to Lakewood Lane
Traffic Impacts
During construction, WIS 13 will remain open to through traffic, with typically one lane of traffic in each direction. In addition:
- Temporary traffic signals are planned for use at the existing signalized intersections.
- Side road intersections and driveway access points are anticipated to be closed for short durations to accommodate construction activities. Consecutive intersections will not be closed concurrently.
- Similarly, properties with more than one driveway access point will not have both closed concurrently. WisDOT will contact property owners in advance of any driveway closures.
- Pedestrian access throughout the corridor will be maintained throughout construction.
Real Estate
Minor real estate acquisition is anticipated for curb ramp replacement work.
