Proposed work includes placing concrete overlay on Beartrap Creek Bridge deck
Release date: April 9, 2025
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed project rehabilitating the bridge carrying US 2 over Beartrap Creek in the Ashland County town of Sanborn.
The public is encouraged to visit the project
website, review a handout, maps and comment form and submit comments by May 7 by:

Attn.: Matt Van Natta
Built in 1976, the bridge needs maintenance. WisDOT is proposing to:
- Remove the asphaltic overlay and place a new concrete overlay
- Make concrete surface repairs to the bridge railing and other spot locations
- Replace missing riprap below the structure
- Replace guardrail
All work will occur inside the existing highway right of way.
During construction, US 2 will remain open to one lane of traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals at the bridge; project staff will evaluate the possible closure of Beartrap Road within the work zone; and local and emergency access will be maintained.
Construction, expected to take two to three months to complete, currently is scheduled for 2028.
