Narrow Gauge Road passes through diverse terrain with native wildlife and vegetation. In the town of Bear Lake, R-83 is named Narrow Gauge Road because it follows the route of an old railroad line used in the logging era. The route meanders through the 4,100-acre Barron County Forest and intersects the
Ice Age Trail.
