Project location
WIS 71 (County V to WIS 80), Kendall to Elroy - Juneau and Monroe counties
Project overview
WisDOT is proposing to improve 9.73 miles of WIS 71. The existing pavement is aged and deteriorated with patching, alligator cracking, and edge cracking throughout the corridor. Proposed improvements include:
- Mill 3.5-inches of the existing pavement and overlay the remaining pavement with 4-inches of asphaltic pavement
- Remove and replace the pavement, curb and gutter and sidewalk through the Village of Kendall
- The Village of Kendall will also replace sanitary and water utilities
- Install ADA compliant curb ramps along WIS 71 through the Village of Kendall
- Replace outdated beam guard and end terminals at multiple locations along WIS 71 with guardrail meeting current safety standards
- Replace seven (7) cross drains throughout the length of the project
- Replace the bridge over Lyndon Valley Creek

- October 2022 - Public Involvement
- Spring/Summer/Fall 2027 - Construction through rural portions
- Spring/Summer/Fall 2029 - Construction through urban portion in the Village of Wonewoc
Traffic impacts/detours
WIS 71 will remain open to traffic utilizing flagging operations during the construction of the rural portions. During structure replacement, WIS 71 will be closed to traffic and detoured.
WIS 71 will be closed and detoured during construction of the urban portion through Kendall in 2029.
