Clark and Taylor Counties: WIS 73, Thorp to Ingram

Location

This 11-mile segment on WIS 73 begins at Park Street in Thorp in Clark County and continues to WIS 64 East in Taylor County.

Overview

This stretch of pavement is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:

  • Mill and overlay WIS 73 with asphaltic pavement
  • Adjust or replace substandard guardrail
  • Replace existing railroad crossing at the north end of the project
  • Repair, line or relay existing culvert pipes
  • Place centerline rumble strips

Real Estate

Temporary limited easements will be needed to facilitate culvert pipe improvements.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.

Traffic Impacts

  • WIS 73 will be open to through traffic during most construction using flagging.
  • A short-term (two weeks) closure of WIS 73 will be needed for railroad crossing work.
    • Signed detour will direct motorists to use County B and WIS 64.
    • Access to properties will be maintained during closure.

Related Projects

This project is one of three introduced in 2021 to address deteriorating pavement on WIS 73. The others are:

  • 8210-00-02: WIS 64 West to County M West in Taylor County
    • Construction on this segment was completed in 2025.
  • ​8210-00-03: Taylor County line to US 8
    • Construction is currently scheduled for 2029.
