Rusk County: WIS 73, Thorp to Ingram

Location

The nine-mile segment on WIS 73 begins at the Taylor County line and continues to US 8, all in Rusk County.

Overview

The pavement on this stretch of WIS 73 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing to:

  • Mill and overlay WIS 73 with asphaltic pavement
  • Adjust or replace substandard guardrail
  • Replace existing railroad crossing at the north end of the project
  • Place centerline rumble strips

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2029.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, WIS 73 will be open to through traffic during most operations using lane closures controlled by flagging.

  • A short-term closure of WIS 73 will be needed for railroad crossing replacement.
    • This is estimated to be two weeks.
    • Motorists will be detoured using WIS 64, WIS 27 and US 8.
    • Access to properties will be maintained during closure.

Related Projects 

This project is one of three introduced in 2021 to address deteriorating pavement on WIS 73. The others are:

  • 8210-00-01: WIS 73, Park Street in Thorp to WIS 64 East in Clark and Taylor counties
    • Construction on this project is currently scheduled for 2027.
  • 8210-00-02: WIS 73, WIS 64 West to County M West in Taylor County
    • ​Construction on this project was completed in 2025.​​
