WIS 124, County S to WIS 64

Location

This project on WIS 124 begins just north of County S in the town of Eagle Point and extends north to WIS 64 east of Bloomer in the towns of Woodmohr and Bloomer, all in Chippewa County.

Overview

The existing pavement on this segment of WIS 124 is deteriorating. To address that and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:

• Milling off a portion of the pavement and placing new asphalt pavement
• Completing culvert work
• Making bridge improvements
• Cleaning ditches at select locations
• Upgrading guardrail
• Replacing pavement markings

Temporary limited easements will be needed for sloping at culvert pipes being considered for installation at six locations.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2032.

• Construction could be advanced to 2028 if funding becomes available.

Traffic Impacts

During construction, WIS 64 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging.

Related Projects

This project is one of three introduced in 2020 to address deteriorating pavement on WIS 124:

• 8610-02-74: Bridge Street to High Street in Chippewa Falls.
• 8610-08-73: High Street in Chippewa Falls to County S in the town of Eagle Point
• 8610-08-72: County S to WIS 64 in the towns of Woodmohr and Bloomer.

Both 8610-02-74 and 8610-08-73 were expected to be constructed in 2025. However, the latter has been moved to 2026. In addition, 8610-08-72 currently is scheduled for construction in 2032, but that work could be advanced to 2028 if the funding becomes available.
