WIS 124, High Street to County S

Location

This project on WIS 124 begins at High Street in the city of Chippewa Falls and extends to County S in the town of Eagle Point, all in Chippewa County.

Overview

The existing pavement on this segment of WIS 124 is deteriorating. To address that and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is proposing:

• Milling off a portion of the pavement and placing new asphalt pavement
• Replacing culverts
• Resurfacing the County S roundabout and replacing the central island truck apron pavement
• Cleaning ditches
• Upgrading sidewalk curb ramps
• Replacing pavement markings

Real Estate

Temporary limited easements and strip parcel acquisition will be needed to upgrade curb ramps.

Schedule

Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.

Traffic Impacts

Most resurfacing work will be completed using lane closures controlled by flagging operations. However, work at the WIS 124/County S roundabout will result in a two- to three-week detour.

Related Projects

This project is one of three introduced in 2020 to address deteriorating pavement on WIS 124:

• 8610-02-74: Bridge Street to High Street in Chippewa Falls.
• 8610-08-73: High Street in Chippewa Falls to County S in the town of Eagle Point
• 8610-08-72: County S to WIS 64 in the towns of Woodmohr and Bloomer.

Both 8610-02-74 and 8610-08-73 were expected to be constructed in 2025. However, the latter has been moved to 2026. In addition, 8610-08-72 currently is scheduled for construction in 2032, but that work could be advanced to 2028 if the funding becomes available.
