The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public feedback on proposed improvements on 8.27 miles of US 141 in Marinette County. This website gives information regarding proposed improvement scope, schedule and traffic impacts, describes potential community impacts, provides information for businesses in the work zone, and offers an opportunity for public comment.
Project location
US 141 from County C in the village of Wausaukee to County K in the town of Amberg in Marinette County, Wis.
Project purpose and need
The project is needed to address two major issues:
- Deterioration of the existing pavement structure
- Series of substandard design elements
Pavement Deterioration
The existing pavement structure is showing signs of distress in the formation of transverse and longitudinal cracks in the surface. This distress leads to poor ride quality, deterioration of the underlying roadway base, and increased maintenance frequency and costs.
Substandard Design Elements
Secondary improvements include removing and replacing substandard beamguard and culvert maintenance including extension, lining, cleaning, end wall replacement/resetting, section resetting, and ditch cleaning. The guardrail was last replaced in 2006 and is near the end of its useful life. here are 23 culverts within the project limits. Seven will be lined and a dozen fully replaced.
Proposed improvements
This is a resurfacing-level project using Cold In-Place Recycling (CIR) . CIR is a cost-effective surfacing technique that reuses existing materials, corrects asphalt defects, extends roadway life and improves transit performance.
CIR improvement specifications for US 141 resurfacing:
Culvert replacements and maintenance
- Four pipes in good condition: No work to be done
- Seven deep pipes to be lined
- 12 pipes to be fully replaced
Guardrail improvements
- 19 total segments to be replaced
- 10,771 LF of rail and end treatments and approaches
Anticipated benefits
Improvements will provide motorists with a smoother riding surface resulting in less wear on vehicles, extend life of pavement, decrease maintenance costs, improve safety for drivers/pedestrians with wider shoulders, eliminate need for future maintenance costs saving taxpayer dollars in the future. Culvert replacements and improvements will provide better drainage which will help convey storm water and provide a safety benefit to roadway users and property owners. Guardrail upgrades provide a safer travel way.
Traffic impacts
US 141 is expected to remain open at all times using flagging operations during construction. There may be short delays during peak traffic times.
