Location
WIS 77, Upson Lake Road to Odanah Road, Iron County
Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to prolong the service life of the WIS 77 pavement structure. The existing pavement is showing signs of distress in the forms of longitudinal cracking, transverse cracking and rutting. In addition, some culverts, curb, gutter and storm sewer have deteriorated, resulting in poor drainage, and many sidewalk curb ramps do not meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Proposed improvements include:
- Mill and overlay the pavement
- Replace sidewalk curb ramps
- Repair inlet and curb and gutter
- Replace storm sewer
- Adjust guardrail height
- Replace culverts
- Improve drainage
- Upgrade pavement markings
- Place centerline rumble strips
Traffic Impacts
WIS 77 will remain open to traffic using flagging operations. A moving flagging operation will be used during paving operations, as traffic will be limited to one lane within the moving work zone. The work zone will be held to a maximum of 1.5 miles. Additional flaggers will be provided at intersecting roadways when the work zone encompasses an intersection or multiple intersections. Replacing culvert pipes and storm sewer and ditching will be constructed using lane closures with flagging. Curb ramp replacements will be constructed using shoulder closures, lane shifts, side road closures, and pedestrian accommodations.
Real Estate
Additional right of way will be required for this project. Curb ramp replacements will require temporary and permanent right-of-way acquisitions. Ditching and culvert replacement areas east of Iron Belt will require additional right of way to improve existing drainage. Preliminary right-of-way impacts are shown on the exhibits.
