WisDOT North Central Region Road Construction Update

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) North Central Region provides interstate and state highway construction updates for the following counties in north central Wisconsin: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara and Wood counties.

Construction schedules may fluctuate pending weather conditions and crew availability.


Forest County

Highway: WIS 32
Location: US 8 to Crandon Railroad Overhead
Schedule: June 15 to September 2026
Project description: Crews will replace asphalt pavement, install new storm sewer and stormwater pond, replace sidewalk, and curb and gutter and install new pavement markings.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue storm sewer work
  • Begin grading
  • Begin curb and gutter work
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 32 will be closed to thru traffic and detoured via US 8, US 45 and WIS 32. Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses.
  • East Glen Street will be closed at US 8 until approximately the end of October.

Iron County

Highway: WIS 77
Location: Upson Lake Road to Odanah Road
Schedule: June 3 to Sept. 24, 2026
Project description: Work includes pavement resurfacing, culvert replacement, curb ramp replacement and minor ditching.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue landscaping
  • Continue shoulder work
Traffic impacts:
  • Motorists will encounter shoulder closures and flagging conditions.

Lincoln County

Highway: WIS 107
Location: Wilderness Drive to County S
Schedule: May 26 to Oct. 15, 2026
Project description: Crews will repave the asphalt and repair or replace culverts.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Work will resume Sept. 21 with milling the road
Traffic impacts:
  • The road will be closed to thru traffic. Traffic will be detoured using WIS 64, US 51, and County S.
Highway: WIS 17
Location: WIS 64 to Big Hay Meadow Creek
Schedule: Aug. 31 to Nov. 6, 2026; April 5 to July 30, 2027
Project description: This project will include replace the asphalt surface, replacing concrete curb and gutter, installing centerline rumble strips, and place protective thermoplastic coating at snowmobile crossings.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue roadway excavation
  • Install culverts
  • Place base materials
  • Pour curb and gutter
  • Begin grading
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 17 will be closed to through traffic. WIS 17 traffic will be detoured along WIS 64, US 51 and US 8.

Marathon County

Highway: WIS 29
Location: WIS 97 to Purple Martin Lane
Schedule: April 6 to Nov. 13, 2026
Project description: Crews will replace existing guardrail, repair concrete pavement, replace concrete pavement in five areas and replace a culvert under westbound WIS 29.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Trim base for concrete pavement on WIS 29 westbound
  • Pour concrete pavement on WIS 29 westbound and County H interchange ramps
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 29 eastbound and westbound lane closures.
  • County H interchange ramp closure until Oct. 30, 2026
  • County H through lanes are now open
Highway: WIS 29, US 51
Location: Foxglove Road to Bridge Street
Schedule: April 9 to Oct. 31, 2026
Project description: The purpose of the project is to address ongoing deterioration of concrete pavements, curb and gutter, inlets and bridges while addressing curb ramps that do not meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Install pavement markings and
  • Replace guardrail
  • Replace concrete pavement
  • Install high friction surface treatment on WIS 29
  • Mill the asphalt shoulders
Traffic impacts:
  • A single lane closure will be installed along various locations along US 51 northbound, US 51 southbound, WIS 29 eastbound and WIS 29 westbound for daytime hours with daily nighttime rolling closures or lane closures restricting traffic to a single lane.
  • Local road closures are anticipated to be along the following roadways:
    • County N
    • County NN
    • WIS 52 Parkway
  • The following service ramps are expected to be closed for two weeks beginning on Sept. 23:
    • County N on-ramp to US 51 southbound
    • US 51 southbound to County N off-ramp
    • US 51 northbound to County NN off-ramp
    • County NN on-ramp to US 51 northbound
    • US 51 northbound to WIS 52 Parkway off-ramp
    • WIS 52 Parkway on-ramp to US 51 southbound

Marquette County

Highway: I-39 southbound
Location: Fawn Court to Waushara County Line
Schedule: Aug. 24, 2026 to Aug. 17, 2027
Project description: Crews will resurface the highway, repair and replace culverts, replace guardrail, reconstruct portions of the pavement along County E/J at the I-39 interchange, replace pavement and curb ramps at Rest Area 81, install lighting enhancements at Rest Area 81, construct drainage improvements at Rest Area 82 and replace pavement markings. Construction on I-39 is scheduled be completed by mid-November 2026. Construction on County E/J and Rest Areas 81 and 82 is scheduled for Spring 2027, with completion anticipated by mid-August 2027. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Patch asphalt
  • Remove concrete approaches, install storm sewer and continue grading
  • Pour concrete approaches
  • Continue sawing concrete
Traffic impacts:
  • Single lane closures on both I-39 southbound and I-39 northbound between Fawn Court and the Waushara County line.

Menominee County

Highway: WIS 47
Location: WIS 55 to the Langlade County Line
Schedule: June 22 to Oct. 30, 2026
Project description: Crews will repave the road, replace small culverts, repair or replace guardrail, replace curb and gutter, and install new pavement markings.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Replace culverts
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 55 is closed to thru traffic from WIS 47 to the Langlade County Line for patching and grading operations. Thru traffic will be detoured via WIS 22, County R, County H, WIS 32 and WIS 64. Access by local traffic and emergency services will be maintained throughout the closure. The closure is anticipated to continue until mid-October.
  • On Sept. 11, while crews replace a culvert between Fanny Lamay Rd and Bear Trap Falls Road, the road will be fully closed and only travel for emergency services will be maintained.
  • Shoulders will be closed in various locations along WIS 47 for grading work.

Oneida County

Highway: US 8
Location: WIS 47 to WIS 17 North
Schedule: April 20 to September 2026
Project description: Crews will remove the existing asphalt and concrete pavement, pave a new asphalt pavement surface and install centerline rumble strips. The intersections of WIS 17 South/WD Boyce Drive and County G with US 8 will be reconstructed as single lane roundabouts.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue paving
  • Begin final pavement marking installation, install signs and begin restoration
Traffic impacts:
  • US 8 will be closed during construction and detoured onto WIS 17 North, Lincoln Street, South Courtney Street, Pelham Street, Arbutus Street and Kemp Street.
Highway: US 45
Location: US 8 to WIS 32
Schedule: May 26 to Oct. 2, 2026
Project description: Crews will resurface the highway, replace 22 culverts, adjust and replace guardrail, and install centerline mumble strips.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue asphalt paving
  • Install centerline rumble strips
  • Place shoulder gravel
  • Install pavement marking
Traffic impacts:
  • Motorists will encounter single-lane closures with flaggers.
Highway: US 51
Location: Minocqua Bridge to Front Street
Schedule: April 6 to June 18, 2026 and Sept. 8 to Oct. 9, 2026
Project description: The project will include concrete joint repairs, curb and gutter improvements and reconstruction of curb ramps to meet ADA standards.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Construction will be paused until Sept. 28.
Traffic impacts:
  • No traffic impacts expected

Shawano County

Highway: WIS 29
Location: County M to Highline Road
Schedule: April 13 to Oct. 20, 2026
Project description: The purpose of this project is to repair concrete joints, replace sections of deteriorated concrete pavement, mill and overlay the asphalt shoulders and replace the guardrail.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue grinding of new concrete patches
  • Patch concrete on the westbound lane from the east end heading west
  • Install pavement marking
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 29 eastbound and westbound traffic will be on the inside lanes.
  • County K/WIS 55 westbound on and off ramp will be closed Sept. 14 through Sept. 21.
Highway: WIS 29
Location: County J to County M, Eastbound
Schedule: March 30 to Nov. 5, 2026
Project description: Crews will replace existing guardrail, repair concrete pavement, replace concrete pavement in five areas and replace a culvert under westbound WIS 29.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue grinding the concrete.
  • Continue shoulder work
  • Pave new concrete pavement in the eastbound lane.
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 29 will have the outside lanes closed.
Highway: WIS 22
Location: County BE to the Oconto County Line
Schedule: June 1 to Oct. 1, 2026
Project description: This project will replace the asphalt pavement, repair or replace culverts and replace guard rail. The project will also address operational issues near the County R Intersection.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue placing shoulder material
  • Apply the thermoplastic snowmobile crossings
  • Install centerline rumble strips throughout the project.
Traffic impacts:
  • Motorists will encounter single lane closures with flaggers

Waupaca County

Highway: US 45, WIS 54
Location: US 45, Givens Road to Church Road and WIS 54, W Jeanne Street to County S
Schedule: March 30 to November 2026
Project description: Work will include replacing asphalt on US 45 and WIS 54, construction of a roundabout at US 45 and County D intersection along with curb and gutter repair and replacement.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Saw asphalt and concrete for the temporary widening and removals.
  • Excavate and install a new culvert at Jeanne Street Intersection.
  • Prepare the topsoil and complete the restoration for all quadrants of the WIS 54 and County D/North Shawano Street intersection.
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 54 is reduced to one lane in each direction from Jeanne Street to House Road.
  • The south half of the intersection of WIS 54 and County D/North Shawano Street in New London has been reopened.
  • WIS 54 will have daytime flagging operations from the WIS 54/County D intersection to Jeanne Street.
  • The US 45 northbound off ramp to WIS 54 will be closed for one day Sept. 30. Traffic will be detoured north to the US 45/County D round about to return on southbound US 45 to exit at WIS 54.
Highway: US 45
Location: County C to Gollnow Road
Schedule: April 20 to Oct. 30, 2026
Project description: The work will consist of removing and replacing asphalt pavement northbound and southbound on US 45. The project will also consist of re-grading the existing ditch south of Gollnow Road, replacing deteriorated curb and gutter at intersection and median areas, replacing guardrail and replacing storm sewer inlets.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue paving the asphalt
Traffic impacts:
  • Traffic is shifted to southbound US 45, with one lane per direction until October.
  • Motorists will encounter flaggers near the intersections. Traffic may be directed to use the nearest connected intersection during paving operations.
Highway: US 10
Location: Anderson Road to Appletree Lane
Schedule: May 4 to Nov. 2, 2026
Project description: Work includes completing joint repairs and replacement, replacing the asphalt shoulders, replacing guardrail, inlet repairs as needed, new pavement marking and replacing curb ramps that are not compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • US 10 westbound
  • Continue concrete pavement repair and replacement on the inside lane (passing lane)
  • Complete wing wall repair for the bridge over WIS 49/54
  • US 10 eastbound
  • Continue wing wall repair for the bridge over WIS 49/54
Traffic impacts:
  • US 10
  • The westbound inside lane (passing lane) and shoulder will be closed from Vaughan Road to Anderson Road.
  • The eastbound outside lane (driving lane) and shoulder will be closed from Anderson Road to WIS 54.
  • WIS 22 South / Lakeside Parkway
  • The southbound inside lane is closed from ¼ mile north to ¼ mile south of US 10.
  • WIS 49/54
  • The eastbound and westbound outside lane and shoulder will be closed from west of County QQ to Covered Bridge Road.

Highway: US 10 westbound
Location: Old WIS 49 to Winnebago County Line
Schedule: Aug. 10 to Nov. 12, 2026
Project description: Crews will be replacing concrete in the travel lanes, repaving the asphalt shoulders, replacing guardrail, and re-striping US 10; updating the signals at the WIS 96 / WIS 110 intersection; and replacing concrete in the travel lanes, and repaving the asphalt shoulders along WIS 110 from the ramp terminals to the WIS 96 intersection.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Grade at guardrail locations
  • Complete milling and paving of outside lanes
Traffic impacts:
  • The westbound inside lane (passing lane) and shoulder of US 10 will be closed from Marsh Road to Old WIS 49.
  • The inside shoulder of eastbound US 10 will have temporary closures to complete work at maintenance crossovers.

Waushara and Marquette Counties

Highway: WIS 73
Location: White River Bridge to WIS 21
Schedule: June 22 to Sept. 25, 2026
Project description: Crews will repair concrete pavement, resurface the highway, replace curb ramps in Neshkoro, replace three culverts, make improvements to the County YY intersection, and install centerline rumble strips.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Complete installing pavement markings
  • Extend a culvert pipe just south of the WIS 21 intersection.
  • Remove a sign at the north end of the project.
  • Complete punch list work.
Traffic impacts:
  • Moving single lane for pavement marking operations on WIS 73
  • Motorists will encounter flagging operations just south of the WIS 21 intersection

Wood/Portage County

Highway: WIS 13/34
Location: 2nd Street North to County P
Schedule: April 13 to November 2026
Project description: This project will include replacing the asphalt, culvert replacements, bridge rehabilitation and guard rail replacement.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue paving asphalt
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 13 will be closed to thru traffic from 2nd Street North to County P. Traffic will be detoured via WIS 66, I-39, and US 10.
  • Access within the project will be down to one lane during milling operations. Property owners should expect short-term blocking of their driveways during the milling and relay operations.
Highway: WIS 54
Location: 26th Street North to County B
Schedule: April 14 to Oct. 31, 2026
Project description: Crews will replace concrete joints, curb and gutter, and upgrade pedestrian curb ramps.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Continue sawing the concrete and asphalt for the pavement repair areas in the outside lanes.
  • Continue removals and concrete work for the pavement repairs along the outside lane in the eastbound direction, removals and concrete work for the inlet adjustments along the outside curb and gutter in Wisconsin Rapids
  • Continue diamond grinding the concrete pavement on WIS 54 in the rural areas beginning in the eastbound direction.
Traffic impacts:
  • The outside lane in the eastbound and westbound directions WIS 54 will be closed to traffic from 26th Street North in Wisconsin Rapids to Bus 51/Post Road in Plover.
  • Short term intersection turning movement closures as work requires.
  • Pedestrian traffic control is in place in Plover to direct pedestrians around the curb ramp work

Highway: WIS 54 Railroad Crossings
Location: 26th Street North to County B
Schedule: Sept. 14 to Sept. 25, 2026
Project description: Crews will replace the railroad crossing surface and roadway approaches at the WIS 54 railroad crossings in Biron and Plover.
Anticipated work scheduled: Crews will:
  • Finish removals and placement of the select crushed material and base aggregate. They will then complete any restoration that is necessary.
  • Perform the construction staking as needed.
  • Set forms and pouring concrete for the curb and gutter, and sidewalk.
  • Install the rubber panels around the tracks in Plover.
  • Begin cleaning up at both crossings.
  • Place the asphalt surface on the roadway and next to the railroad tracks.
  • Install the pavement marking at both crossings.
Traffic impacts:
  • WIS 54 eastbound and westbound will be closed to traffic at the railroad crossings in Wisconsin Rapids near 32nd Street North and in Plover near Grant Avenue.
  • A detour route will be in place utilizing I-39, WIS 66, and WIS 13.
