WisDOT raising speed limit to match an increase in the limit approved by MnDOT
Release date: November 8, 2024
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is raising the speed limit from 55 mph to 65 mph on WIS 64 from the Minnesota state line in the center of the St. Croix River to the WIS 35/64/County E interchange in the St. Croix County town of St. Joseph on Tuesday, Nov. 12, weather permitting.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is raising the speed limit the same day on MN 36 from 1,500 feet east of County 24 (Osgood Avenue East) in Oak Park Heights, Minn., to the Wisconsin state line.
MnDOT recently completed an engineering and traffic investigation on MN 36 from the junction with I-35W to the Minnesota-Wisconsin state line to ensure uniform and consistent speed zones. Based on the results, MnDOT recommended raising the 55-mph speed limit to 65 mph from County 24 to the Wisconsin state line. To maintain a consistent speed limit across the St. Croix Crossing and into Wisconsin, WisDOT is opting to do the same.
