Meeting set for WIS 105 improvements in Douglas County

Work includes replacing undersized drainage structure and roadway approaches

Release date: October 30, 2024

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about improvements proposed for a segment of WIS 105 from an unnamed tributary to the Pokegama River in Douglas County.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the proposed improvements, review exhibits and ask questions of project staff.

  • When: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13
    • A short presentation is planned for 5:15 p.m.
  • Where: Oliver Village Hall, 2125 E. State St., Superior

The existing culvert at this location is undersized. To address this and other issues, WisDOT is proposing to:

  • Remove the existing culvert and replace it with a new structure.
  • The new structure is anticipated to be a bridge.
  • Replace pavement approaching the new structure.
  • Repair slopes disturbed by construction.

The alternatives are being considered for handling WIS 105 traffic during construction are:

  • Building a single-lane bypass for light-weight vehicles on the south side of the new structure and having temporary signals control traffic.
  • Detouring heavy truck traffic using MN 23, I-35 and WIS 35.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2026.

Hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind or those with a speech disability needing accommodations should contact the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay Service via 711 at least three days before the meeting.

Those who can’t attend the meeting can view materials on the project website. Comments on the proposed project are being accepted through Dec. 20 by:
