Public meeting set for WIS 13 improvement projects

Work includes culvert pipe replacement, structure maintenance, asphalt paving, and urban reconstruction through Glidden

Release date: October 7, 2024

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about improvements proposed to be made over two years to 17.4 miles of WIS 13 from the Price County Line to Morse Road between Park Falls and Mellen.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the proposed improvements, review maps and other information and ask questions of project staff.

  • When: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15
    • A short presentation is planned for 5:30 p.m.
  • Where: Jacobs Town Hall, 23 N. Grant St., Glidden

The pavement and structures along this segment of WIS 13 are showing signs of deterioration. WisDOT is proposing the following to address these:

  • Replacing existing culvert pipes.
  • Constructing a box culvert at Becky Creek.
  • Rehabilitating bridge structures.
  • Removing a portion of the existing asphalt and placing new asphalt pavement.
  • Replacing curb, gutter, sidewalk and storm sewer in Glidden

In addition, the town of Jacobs plans to replace water and sanitary sewer utilities.

In the rural areas, lane closures and flaggers will be used to direct traffic through the work zone. However, the construction of the box culvert at Becky Creek will be completed half at a time, with temporary signals controlling traffic on the open single lane. The segment through Glidden will utilize a short-term detour and lane closures to accommodate WIS 13 traffic.

Culvert replacement, rehabilitation work on bridges over Dryden Creek northwest of Glidden, the Chippewa River southeast of Glidden and Butternut Creek south of Butternut and replacement of guardrail is planned for 2026. The replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalk and storm sewer in Glidden and resurfacing of WIS 13 from the Price County line to Morse Road will be completed in 2027.

The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Hard-of-hearing, deaf, deaf-blind or those with a speech disability should contact the Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay Service via 711 at least three days before the meeting.

Those who can’t attend the meeting can view materials on the project website. Comments on the proposed project are being accepted through Nov. 15 by:
