Closure the result of overhead work; traffic to be detoured via interchange ramps
Release date: September 6, 2024
East- and westbound I-94 on the south side of Eau Claire is set to be fully closed to traffic from 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at the WIS 93 interchange because of overhead construction on the bridges. Traffic will be detoured via the interchange ramps.
If all work can’t be completed during the closure, I-94 will be fully closed again from 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10.
The left, or passing, lanes on east- and westbound I-94 also are scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9 and 10.
Motorists could experience delays and might want to consider alternate routes.
Construction on a project rehabilitating the bridges carrying north- and southbound WIS 93 over I-94 in Eau Claire began at the end of July. During the work, crews will:
- Complete the following on the southbound bridge:
- Replace the bridge joints.
- Make repairs to the bridge deck and diaphragm.
- Overlay the bridge deck with concrete.
- Replace the concrete approaches on both ends of the structure.
- Complete fiber wrapping of bridge piers.
- Complete the following on the northbound bridge:
- Replace both north wing walls.
- Make repairs to the bridge deck and sidewalk.
- Replace the concrete approaches on both ends of the structure.
- Complete fiber wrapping of bridge piers.
Construction is being staged to allow a single lane in both directions to remain open to traffic on WIS 93. Currently, the passing lanes on both structures are closed. The work also will result in the occasional closure of lanes on I-94.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-November.
