Governor Evers approves WIS 35 resurfacing project

Project from Stockholm to Pierce County line includes adding centerline rumble strips, completing culvert work, replacing guardrail and placing pavement markings

Release date: August 11, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $4.28 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 35 from about 850 feet northwest of Walnut Street in the Pepin County village of Stockholm to the Pierce County line. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 18.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 35 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Remove 2.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.75 inches of new asphalt pavement
  • Install centerline rumble strips
  • Complete culvert work, including cleaning and resetting end walls
  • Replace guardrail
  • Install new pavement markings

During construction, WIS 35 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging and shoulder closures.

Construction is scheduled for completion in early November.
