Construction begins now on eastbound structure between Hudson and Lakeland, MN
Release date: July 31, 2026
To facilitate construction on the bridge carrying eastbound I-94 over the St. Croix River between Hudson and Lakeland, MN, traffic on that and the westbound structure has been switched to a new configuration.
Starting today:
- The westbound bridge is carrying two lanes of westbound traffic on its outer two lanes and two lanes of eastbound traffic on the inner lanes.
- The eastbound bridge is carrying two lanes of eastbound traffic on the structure’s inner two lanes. The far inside lane is a through lane, and the lane next to it is an auxiliary lane between the MN 95 on-ramp and WIS 35 off-ramp.
- The crossover for eastbound traffic begins approximately 1,000 feet west of the bridge in Minnesota and recombines at the 11th Street overpass in Hudson.
Once work on the outside of the eastbound bridge is complete, the two lanes of traffic on that structure will be shifted to the two outer lanes.
All ramps entering and exiting both bridges remain open. The Hudson to Lakeland/Afton Trail remains closed just north of the westbound I-94 bridge on the Wisconsin side and just south of the eastbound bridge on the Minnesota side.
During closure of the trail, a shuttle service is making three roundtrips across the bridges daily, picking up passengers on the Wisconsin side first at 7 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. Sundays through Saturdays at the following:
- Wisconsin side: Boat launch parking lot on WIS 35 across the street from the wastewater treatment plant, 505 3rd St., Hudson
- Minnesota side: Southwest corner of Hudson Road North and Quinlan Avenue North in Lakeland
Construction on an improvement project rehabilitating both bridges began in early April, with work starting on the westbound bridge. Completion of the entire project is scheduled for late October.
