Barrier to be installed in medians on segments of I-94, US 53 and WIS 29

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.99 million contract with prime contractor Mattison Contractors, Inc. of Knapp for a safety improvement project on segments of I-94 in St. Croix County, US 53 in Eau Claire County and WIS 29 in Chippewa County. Construction is scheduled to start Thursday, Aug. 7.
To prevent cross-median crashes, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to install median cable barrier at the following locations:
- St. Croix County:
- I-94: 0.95 mile west of WIS 65 to WIS 65 in Roberts
- I-94: 140th Street to County J between the WIS 65 (Roberts) and US 63 (Baldwin) exits
- Eau Claire County:
- US 53, County QQ in the town of Seymour to La Salle Street in Eau Claire
- Chippewa County:
- WIS 29: 40th Avenue to 50th Avenue, Lake Hallie
- WIS 29: County J to 190th Street, town of Lafayette
- WIS 29: County G in the town of Delmar to 0.45 mile west of County H in Stanley
Construction also will include:
- Reconstructing drainage structures
- Grading
- Restoring the graded areas
- Placing shoulder aggregate
During construction. I-94, US 53 and WIS 29 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane and shoulder closures where crews are working.
Construction is scheduled for completion in early November.
