Meeting set for Aug. 7 to share work details with business owners, residents

Release date: July 30, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $1.72 million contract with prime contractor Haas Sons, Inc. of Thorp for a resurfacing project on County OO between Business 53 north of Melby Street and the Business 53/WIS 124/County OO intersection in the Chippewa County village of Lake Hallie. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 11, with preliminary work starting the week before.

The contractor will provide information about the project, including planned improvements, schedule and traffic impacts, to the public during the following meeting:

  • When: 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7
  • Where: Lake Hallie Municipal Building, 13136 30th Ave.

To address deteriorating pavement and pedestrian connectivity, the project includes:

  • Removing the existing pavement between Business 53 and Hogarth Street, crushing it down into base material, placing that as road base and paving new asphalt over it.
  • Milling off a portion of the existing pavement from Hogarth to the north project limits and placing new asphalt pavement
  • Constructing a segment of trail to tie into the existing trail west of County OO
  • Marking an at-grade trail crossing on County OO at 30th Avenue
  • Installing curb and gutter at various locations
  • Shouldering
  • Placing new pavement markings

During the first two stages of construction, County OO remain open to southbound traffic, and northbound County OO traffic will be detoured via Business 53 to its intersection with WIS 124 and County OO.

During the third stage of construction, County OO will be closed for up to five days between South Joles Parkway and Business 53/WIS 124/County OO. Southbound County OO traffic will be detoured via Business 53.

Access will be maintained for properties in the work zone, and construction is scheduled for completion in mid-October.

Chippewa County is the project sponsor, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is overseeing construction.
