Meeting set for August 1 to share work details with business owners, residents

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $4.48 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on US 12 between Industrial Drive in Altoona and the Fall Creek Bridge in Fall Creek. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 11, with preliminary work starting the week before.
To provide information about the project, including the planned improvements, schedule and traffic impacts, the prime contractor will be holding a preconstruction public meeting:

Where: Clubhouse at Lake Altoona County Park, 605 Beach Road, Altoona
To address deteriorating pavement and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes:
- Milling and resurfacing the existing pavement with new asphalt from Short Road to the Fall Creek Bridge
- Widening paved shoulders from 3 feet to 5 feet
- Installing shoulder and centerline rumble strips to enhance driver safety
- Repairing or replacing aging culverts and cattle passes
- Upgrading guardrail throughout the project
- Improving drainage by grading ditches at key locations:
- South of US 12 near Schultz Road
- South of US 12 west of Oak Knoll Road
- West of the Fall Creek Bridge (approximately 500 feet)
- Installing new pavement markings throughout the corridor
- Clearing trees from a 500-foot segment between Voight and Oak Knoll roads
During construction, US 12 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging. Access to properties in the work zone will be maintained.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-November.
