Approach work to close bridge carrying Melby Street over US 53

Ramps at US 53/Melby Street interchange to remain open during bridge closure

Release date: July 2, 2025

Bridge approach work is expected to result in the closure of the bridge carrying Melby Street over US 53 in Lake Hallie starting at 6 a.m. Monday, July 7, but the ramps at the US 53/Melby Street interchange will remain open to traffic.

The bridge is expected to be closed for at least a week. Motorists needing to cross US 53 can use either exit 90 (WIS 312 (North Crossing)/County Q) or exit 94 (WIS 124/County OO) and Business 53.

The bridge approach work is part of a pavement improvement project on north- and southbound US 53 from Golf Road in Eau Claire to 40th Avenue in Lake Hallie that includes:

  • Making repairs to or removing and replacing segments of concrete pavement
  • Overlaying southbound US 53 with asphalt from WIS 312 (North Crossing) in Eau Claire to County OO in Lake Hallie
  • Completing work at various bridges
  • Replacing guardrail and signage
  • Placing new pavement markings

Construction began in early June and is scheduled for completion in late October.
