US 10 safety improvement project east of County E to start

Segment of highway to be reconstructed to increase motorists’ sight distance

Release date: June 26, 2025

Construction is scheduled to start Monday, June 30 on a safety improvement project on US 10 east of the County E intersection south of the city of River Falls in the Pierce County town of Oak Grove. Work originally was planned to begin in mid-May.

The intersection has a high crash rate. To address that, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Reconstruct approximately 1,000 feet of US 10 east of the County E intersection to lower the state highway's vertical curve by about five feet to increase motorists’ sight distance
  • Replace culvert pipe
  • Place new pavement markings

During construction, US 10 will be closed to traffic. Local traffic will be detoured via County E and 530th Avenue. Trucks weighing more than 20 tons will be detoured via WIS 35 and WIS 65.

Construction is expected to be completed by late August.

Haas Sons, Inc. of Thorp is the prime contractor on the $950,615 project.
