Fisher River culvert replacement to result in detour of WIS 73 starting June 23
Release date: June 6, 2025
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.16 million contract with Mosinee-based prime contractor American Asphalt of Wisconsin for a resurfacing project on WIS 73 from WIS 64 West east of Gilman to County M West in Hannibal, all in Taylor County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, June 23, but the contractor is expected to begin staking and mobilizing traffic control the week of June 9.
The pavement on this segment of WIS 73 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:
- Mill and overlay WIS 73 with asphaltic pavement
- Replace the existing box culvert at the Fisher River, approximately 900 feet north of the east junction of County M with a new twin box culvert
- Clean, line or relay existing culvert pipes
- Adjust guardrail and end terminals
Beginning June 23, WIS 73 will be closed to through traffic for structure replacement, and that traffic will be detoured via WIS 64, WIS 27 and US 8. Access will be maintained to businesses and residences in the work zone. Once structure replacement is complete, the remaining work will be completed using lane closures controlled by flagging.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-August.
