Governor approves WIS 64 culvert replacement project

Replacement of two structures east of Medford to close WIS 64 to through traffic

Release date: June 6, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $888,604 contract with Haas Sons, Inc. of Thorp for a culvert replacement project on WIS 64 east of the Taylor County city of Medford. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, June 16.

Built in 1922 and 1938 respectively, the culverts east of Bizer Drive and east of Crane Drive have reached the end of their service lives. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Replace both structures with new concrete box culverts
  • Reconstruct the roadway over the structures
  • Remove guardrail from areas deemed no longer necessary
  • Place new pavement markings

During construction, WIS 64 will be closed, and through traffic will be detoured via WIS 97, WIS 29, WIS 13 and WIS 64. Access to businesses and residences in the work zone will be maintained.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-August.
