Governor Evers approves WIS 128 resurfacing project

Work includes replacing culvert pipes, overlaying deck on Tiffany Creek Bridge

Release date: May 20, 2026

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $6.08 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 128 from US 12 in the town of Springfield to WIS 170 in Glenwood City, all in St. Croix County. Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday, May 26.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 128 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes:

  • Recycling 3.75 inches of the existing asphaltic surface and paving 2.75 inches over the recycled pavement in the rural section of the project
  • Milling approximately 3.25 inches of the existing asphaltic surface and paving the roadway with 3.25 inches of hot-mix asphalt in the urban section
  • Placing centerline rumble strips
  • Overlaying the Tiffany Creek Bridge deck Glenwood City
  • Updating guardrail throughout the project corridor
  • Cleaning or replacing culvert pipes
  • Updating sidewalk curb ramps in Glenwood City
  • Installing new pavement markings

During construction, WIS 128 will remain open to traffic during the removal and replacement of pavement and completion of bridge work, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by either flagging or temporary traffic signals. During culvert replacement, WIS 128 will be closed to through traffic and detoured.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late August.
