Governor Evers approves WIS 124 project in Chippewa Falls

Construction information meeting set for May 22 to share work details with public

Release date: May 16, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.56 million contract with prime contractor Chippewa Concrete Services, Inc. of Chippewa Falls for a resurfacing project on WIS 124 from Duncan Creek to Bridge Street in the Chippewa County city of Chippewa Falls. Construction tentatively is scheduled to start Monday, June 2.

The contractor will hold a construction information meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Chippewa Falls City Hall, 30 W. Central St., to go over the proposed work, schedule and traffic impacts with the public.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 124 South from the Duncan Creek Bridge, which follows Jefferson Avenue, Elm Street, Bridge Street, Cedar Street, Bay Street and River Street back to Bridge Street, is showing signs of deterioration. To address these and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement
  • Replace storm sewer on Elm Street
  • Modify traffic signals at Columbia Street, Grand Avenue, Central Street, Spring Street and River Street
  • Update sidewalk curb ramps

During construction, WIS 124 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane and side road closures.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late October.
