Highway to close to through traffic for bridge, culvert, grading and guardrail work
Release date: May 9, 2025
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $7.7 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 93 from Cedar Road south of Eau Claire to the Trempealeau County line north of Eleva. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, May 19, but crews are expected to be placing silt fence the week of May 12.
The pavement on this section of WIS 93, the bridge that crosses Clear Creek south of County HH and the box culvert at Pine Creek north of County HH are showing signs of deterioration. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is:
- Milling 3.25 inches of the existing asphalt surface and overlaying the road with 3.25 inches of new asphalt
- Replacing the Clear Creek Bridge and box culvert at Pine Creek with bridges
- Cleaning, replacing and resetting sections of existing culverts in the project limits
- Widening WIS 93's paved shoulders to five feet
- Installing new pavement markings and shoulder rumble strips
- Adding asphaltic curbs/flumes to manage roadway runoff
- Replacing or adjusting guardrail
Starting May 19, WIS 93 will be closed to through traffic because of bridge work at Pine and Clear creeks and culvert, grading and guardrail work throughout the project limits. The closures are anticipated to be in place until early August, and through traffic will be detoured via I-94, WIS 37 and US 10.
During resurfacing, WIS 93 will be reduced to one lane, with traffic controlled by flaggers during normal construction hours.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
