Governor Evers approves WIS 29 resurfacing project

Project in Chippewa and Clark counties includes patching concrete pavement, overlaying the road with asphalt

Release date: May 5, 2026

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $9.35 million contract with prime contractor Rock Road Cos., Inc. of Janesville for a resurfacing project on WIS 29 from 320th Street east of Boyd in Chippewa County to Koser Avenue west of Thorp in Clark County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, May 11.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 29 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project includes:

  • Patching the concrete pavement
  • Placing 3.75 inches of asphalt over the existing roadway
  • Removing a portion of the existing pavement on the WIS 29 on- and off-ramps at the County H interchange in Stanley and on County H between the east- and westbound ramps and placing new asphalt pavement
  • Repairing culverts as needed
  • Rehabilitating the structure over Hay Creek east of Boyd
  • Closing and removing the intersection on WIS 29 at 320th Street per the town of Delmar’s request

During construction, WIS 29 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures and a reduction of the speed limit. The on-ramps from County H to east- and westbound WIS 29 at Stanley will be closed briefly with a signed detour provided for each ramp to facilitate concrete patching work on those ramps. Other work on the County H ramps would be completed half at a time, meaning the on- and off-ramps on the side where work was occurring would be closed while the ramps on the other side would remain open. Work on County H would be completed using lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-September.
