Work to resume on I-43 resurfacing and improvement project in Milwaukee County

Release date: April 28, 2026

Beginning the week of May 4, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will resume work on the I-43 resurfacing and improvement project between Bender Road and the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee County. 

Work to be completed:
  • Noise wall replacement
  • Retaining wall repairs
  • Resurface I-43 southbound outside lane and shoulder between Bender Road and Silver Spring Drive
  • New pavement markings​
Traffic impacts:
  • Southbound I-43 between Good Hope Road and Silver Spring Drive will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes. 
  • Northbound Jean Nicolet Road, between Montclaire Avenue and Bender Road, is scheduled to close through fall 2026.
  • Local access will be maintained. 
Schedule:
Construction on this project began in mid-2025 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2026. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
