Release date: April 22, 2025

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public comment on proposed projects replacing structures at Crazy Horse Creek in the Rusk County town of Lawrence and the Fisher River in the Taylor County town of Cleveland. The former is north of Jump River, and the latter is south of the community.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website, review project details and use the comment form to share their input. Comments are being accepted through May 23 by:

  • Email: jsaxby@sehinc.com
  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation
    718 W. Clairemont Ave.
    Eau Claire, WI 54701
    Attn.: Christena O’Brien

The structures at both locations are nearing the ends of their service lives. WisDOT is proposing the following at each location:

  • Crazy Horse Creek
    • Removing the three 6-by-9-foot metal culverts
    • Constructing a three-cell concrete box culvert
    • Grading side slopes to match the new culvert
    • Restoring the pavement and pavement markings at the culvert site
  • Fisher River
    • Removing the existing 16-foot concrete culvert
    • Constructing a single-cell box culvert
    • Removing the existing guardrail
    • Grading side slopes to match the new culvert
    • Replacing the culvert under Hooker Road
    • Restoring the pavement and pavement markings at the culvert site

During construction, WIS 73 will be closed at each site. Through traffic will be detoured via WIS 64, WIS 27 and US 8. Access will remain open for local and emergency traffic between work areas. In addition, access will remain open to Hooker Road, which is located within the Fisher River work zone.

Estimated to take approximately three months to complete, construction currently is scheduled for 2028.

Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal. Alerts and updates provided via these sites are not intended for use while driving. When driving, your focus should always be on driving.
