Governor Evers approves WIS 73 resurfacing project

Work in Clark County includes extending box culvert, overlaying Popple River Bridge deck, cleaning or replacing culverts and replacing or adjusting guardrail

Release date: April 22, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $8.29 million contract with prime contractor American Asphalt of Wisconsin of Mosinee for a resurfacing project on WIS 73 from the Rock Creek Bridge in Greenwood to WIS 29 East south of Withee, all in Clark County. Construction is scheduled to start Friday, April 25; that start is weather dependent.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 73 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to do the following from:

  • Rock Creek Bridge to West Hunt Street in Greenwood:
    • Remove 3.25 inches of existing asphalt and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
    • Replace curb ramps and make spot curb and gutter repairs
    • Replace guardrail
    • Place pavement markings
  • From West Hunt Street north to WIS 29 East:
    • Remove 3.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
    • Replace cattle passes no longer in use with culvert pipes
    • Extend a box culvert north of Greenwood and replace the structure's wing walls
    • Overlay the Popple River Bridge deck with concrete, repair the concrete surface on the bridge abutments, replace two wing walls and repair scour
    • Clean or replace culverts
    • Clean ditches
    • Replace or adjust guardrail

WIS 73 will remain open to traffic during construction, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by temporary signals for work on the Popple River Bridge and single-lane closures controlled by flagging for the remaining work.

Construction is scheduled for completion in September.
