Release date: April 15, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $8.5 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on US 63 from US 10 east of Ellsworth to WIS 29 East in Pierce County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, May 5; that start is weather dependent.

The contractor will go over the proposed work, schedule and traffic impacts, including detours, at the following stakeholder meetings at Martell Town Hall, W5581 800th Ave., Spring Valley:

  • 5 p.m. Monday, April 28
  • 5 p.m. Monday, May 12

The pavement on this segment of US 63 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Remove 1.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
  • Replace the decks on the bridges carrying US 63 over the south fork of Lost Creek, Lost Creek and a branch of the Rush River
  • Replace culverts, gravel shoulders and guardrail
  • Clean ditches
  • Place new pavement markings

US 63 will be closed for a portion of the work.

  • During stage 1, US 63 will be closed for the replacement of the culvert between 610th Street and 590th, with traffic detoured via US 63 and WIS 72. This work is anticipated to take place from May 5-19.
  • During stage 2, US 63 will be closed for the rehabilitation of bridges over the south fork of Lost Creek between County DD and 570th Avenue, Lost Creek between County G and County N and a branch of the Rush River between 760th Avenue and County J. Traffic will be detoured via Wis 65 and County J, and the work tentatively is scheduled from May 19-Aug. 4.
  • During stage 3, US 63 and side roads will remain open to traffic, but US 63 will be reduced to a single lane controlled by flagging during work. Milling and paving is expected to start between US 10 and 610th Street and continue to the east junction of WIS 29. This work is tentatively planned from Aug. 4-Sept. 25.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
