Governor Evers approves WIS 65 resurfacing project

Work includes culvert, ditch and guardrail work between Roberts and New Richmond

Release date: April 11, 2025

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $5.13 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on WIS 65 from 70th Avenue in Roberts to Richmond Way in New Richmond, all in St. Croix County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 21.

The pavement on this segment of WIS 65 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:

  • Remove 2.5 inches of the existing pavement and overlay the roadway with 3.25 inches of new asphalt
  • Add centerline rumble strips
  • Add culvert liners and replace culvert end walls
  • Clean and shape ditches
  • Adjust guardrail and grade end terminals
  • Place gravel shoulders and new pavement markings

During construction, WIS 65 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter daytime lane closures controlled by flagging. Because of the volume of traffic, flagging won’t be allowed from:

  • 7 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays on the south leg of WIS 65 from 70th Avenue to East Graham Street
  • 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays on US 12/WIS 65 from WIS 65 South to WIS 65 North and on the north leg of WIS 65 from County G to Richmond Way

The construction start is weather dependent, and the project is scheduled for completion in early July.
