Meeting set for April 22 to share work details with business owners, residents
Release date: April 10, 2025
To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.68 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project on US 63 from the west junction of WIS 48 to Charrie Lane in the Barron County city of Cumberland. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 28; that start is weather dependent.
The contractor will hold a preconstruction meeting from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at Cumberland City Hall, 950 1st Ave., to go over the proposed work, schedule and traffic impacts with the public.
The pavement on this segment of US 63 is showing signs of deterioration. To address these and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to:
- Remove 3.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement
- Close access to the roadway at various locations to improve safety
- Upgrade pedestrian curb ramps to current Americans With Disabilities Act standards
- Repair or replace curb, gutter and sidewalk
- Repair sanitary sewer manholes and storm water inlets as needed
- Extend the two-way left-turn lane pavement markings between 3rd and 5th avenues
- Replace pavement markings and signage
During construction, US 63 will remain open to traffic. The first two stages of construction will be completed using shoulder and parking lane closures. Pedestrian access during these stages will be maintained. During the third stage of construction, motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.
Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-September.
