WisDOT seeking input on Ashland County resurfacing project

Proposed work includes replacing guardrail, placing new pavement markings

Release date: April 9, 2025

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public input on a proposed resurfacing project between 36th Avenue in the city of Ashland and Government Road in the town of Sanborn, all in Ashland County.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website, review a handout, maps and comment form and submit comments by May 7 by:

  • Email: apeterson@correinc.com
  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation
             1701 N. 4th St.
             Superior, WI 54880
             Attn.: Matt Van Natta

The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, WisDOT is proposing:

  • Removing 4 inches of the existing pavement and placing 4 inches of new pavement.
  • Replacing guardrail components at the following locations:
    • 1,200-feet west of Beartrap Road on the south side of roadway
    • Kakagon Slough Bridge
    • West side of the Bad River Bridge
  • Placing new pavement markings and centerline rumble strips

All work will occur inside the existing highway right of way.

During construction, US 2 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging. Local and emergency access will be maintained to properties in the work zone.

Construction, expected to take three to four months to complete, currently is scheduled for 2027.
