Construction on I-94 bridge replacement project to resume

Construction in 2025 includes replacing the westbound I-94 structures over Kinney Road and 100th Street between Roberts and Hudson in St. Croix County

Construction on a multiyear project replacing west- and eastbound I-94 bridges over Kinney Road and 100th Street between Roberts and Hudson is set to resume Monday, March 17.

Built in 1958, the four structures are reaching the end of their service lives. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to:

• Remove and replace the bridges, with the westbound bridges replaced in 2025 and eastbound in 2026
• Replace 1,000 to 1,200 feet of the I-94 pavement on both sides of structures in both directions
• Install storm sewer
• Replace guardrail and pavement marking

During the replacement of the westbound structures in 2025, motorists on westbound I-94 will be shifted onto temporary traffic lanes built in the median to get around the work zones.

Construction in 2025 is scheduled to be complete in mid-October. Work will resume in spring 2026, with overall project completion that fall.

Construction began in September 2024, with building temporary crossovers on both sides of the bridges and constructing temporary structures and traffic lanes to carry traffic during bridge replacement.

Hoffman Construction Co. of Black River Falls is the prime contractor on the $20.08 million project.
