US 51 will be closed and detoured this spring for construction project

Traffic will be detoured on US 8 and WIS 47 until Memorial Day
Feb. 16, 2026

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) announced that US 51 in Lincoln and Oneida Counties will be closed and detoured this spring prior to Memorial Day. The project runs from US 8 to the Bearskin Bridge near County L in Oneida County.

The detour route will follow US 8 and WIS 47.

This project is not associated with the proposed roundabout at US 51 and County K/Swamp Lake Road in Oneida County being developed for construction in 2027. This project involves repairing concrete pavement, resurfacing the asphalt and bridge repairs.

Work will continue after Memorial Day with lane closures and flaggers. All lanes will be open for weekend traffic.

More information will be available closer to construction scheduled to begin April 2026. For more information on the project, please visit the WisDOT North Central Region’s projects page.
