WisDOT holding public involvement meeting on US 63 project

Proposed work includes rehabilitating bridge over Yellow River in city of Spooner

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about a proposed project rehabilitating the bridge carrying US 63 over the Yellow River in the Washburn County city of Spooner.

• When: 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5.
• A presentation is planned for 5 p.m.
• Where: Spooner City Hall, 515 N. Summit St.

Built in 1975, the Yellow River Bridge needs maintenance. WisDOT is proposing:

• Overlaying the bridge deck with concrete
• Making concrete surface repairs to bridge abutments and parapet
• Replacing concrete approach slabs
• Paving the roadway with asphalt on both sides of the structure
• Completing work to improve drainage adjacent to the bridge
• Replacing guardrail on the west side of US 63
• Replacing pavement markings

Construction currently is scheduled for 2028.

US 63 will remain open, but construction will be staged. During stage 1, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on the west side of the bridge controlled by temporary traffic signals. During stage 2, one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions on the east side of the structure.
