WIS 29, County D to County OO, Marathon County

Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to perform improvements on WIS 29 between County D and County OO. These improvements would include repairs to address observed concrete pavement distresses and increase the longevity of the roadway pavement section. Other improvements include addressing existing asphalt features showing cracking and settling next to the existing concrete pavement and addressing the adjacent settled gravel shoulders. Secondary needs are to address the structure on WIS 29 (eastbound) over the South Branch Embarrass River (B-58-0039) which is showing deterioration on the bridge deck edges and other spot locations. These improvements would improve the overall safety, maintenance needs, and longevity of the roadway and structure along this corridor.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Concrete pavement joint and crack repair
  • Resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement – shoulders, turn lanes, intersections, side roads, and median crossovers
  • Adjustments, repairs, and replacements of curb and gutter, surface drains, guardrail, median and cable barrier
  • Removal of existing centerline raised pavement markers and replacement of shoulder delineators
  • Adjustments, repairs, and replacements of concrete approach slabs and concrete shoulders adjacent to bridge structures
  • Deck edge repair, drip edge replacement and thin polymer overlay repair on WIS 29 (eastbound) over the South Branch Embarrass River (B-58-0039)

Traffic Impact

During construction, WIS 29 between County D and County OO will remain open to traffic but motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures or bidirectional traffic. Temporary driveway closures will be necessary during parts of the construction process. WisDOT or the construction contractor will contact homeowners and businesses in advance before closing a driveway.
