Project location

4th Street, in the city of Tomahawk, in Lincoln County.

Project overview

Leather Avenue to County A (roadway project)

  • Replacement, improvements include:
    • New storm sewer
    • Curb and gutter
    • City utilities
    • New sidewalk
    • Street lights
  • Recreational trail box culvert will be constructed under 4th Street and will connect Veteran's Memorial Park with the Hiawatha Recreational Trail.
  • Construction started in May 2011 and is scheduled to be completed in October 2011.

River Street to Leather Avenue (bridge project)

  • Existing bridge was structurally deficient and near the end of its service life.
  • Existing 455-foot six-span Wisconsin River Bridge, on 4th Street, was replaced with a 500-foot, four-span bridge.
  • Bridge reopened in late June 2011.
  • Construction started in October 2010 and was completed in August 2011.

Spring/summer 2011

  • Construction on 4th Street (River Street to Leather Avenue)
  • Aesthetic treatments (railing, landscaping, decorative lighting)

Planning and design began in 2008.

Estimated cost for the bridge replacement and the local road improvements is $9.5 million.

Status/phase

Project completed and open to traffic.
