Project overview

The WIS 83 Project, from I-43 at Mukwonago to WIS 16 at Hartland, in Waukesha County, is an important north-south highway serving regional traffic as well as local traffic generated by development along the highway.

The 17-mile section of WIS 83 between Waukesha County NN and WIS 16 has been studied to determine how to best meet the long-term transportation needs of the corridor.

The WIS 83 Corridor Study determined five projects were necessary to accommodate the growing traffic volumes and improve safety along the corridor:

  • WIS 16 and WIS 83 interchange from Capital Drive to Campus Drive, reconstruct and expand four lanes
  • I-94 to WIS 16, resurface the existing lanes from Golf Road to north of Cardinal Lane
  • High Meadow Lane to I-94, resurface the existing lanes
  • County DE to High Meadow Lane, reconstruct and expand four lanes
  • County NN to WIS 59
    • Reconstruct County NN to County X, four lanes
    • Construct two lanes on ultimate four lane from County X to Walnut/Seville
    • Two lane curb and gutter from Walnut/Seville to Old Village Road
    • Widen shoulders and improve signals from Old Village Road to WIS 59

The first project, I-94 to WIS 16, began in the spring of 2008.
