• Stoughton bypass – Alternative B includes the Stoughton Bypass. The Stoughton Bypass is comprised of a four-lane divided urban roadway on existing US 51 between WIS 138 and County B, a four-lane expansion of County B from US 51 to County N on one of two possible alignments, along with different alternative routes for a four-lane roadway east of County N that connect back to US 51 east of Stoughton.

Traffic volumes/operations

The analysis of existing and future operating characteristics of a roadway can be measured using Level of Service (LOS) to provide an indication of the ability of the roadway to satisfy both existing and future travel demand.

LOS is a quantitative measure of the quality of service of a transportation facility. The LOS measure is broken down into six letter grades, “A” through “F” with “A” being the best and “F” being the worst. LOS measure of D/E is considered the lowest acceptable rating for an intersection.

• Alternative B - Four-lane expansion of US 51 from Stoughton to McFarland. The potential interchange located at US 51 and County B east would be a north-south interchange (Traffic wanting to travel on County B east would need to exit.).
