Due to blizzard and near-blizzard conditions, WisDOT office buildings including DMV offices are closed for the rest of today – Friday, January 12, 2024 – in the following counties: Door, Kewaunee, Brown, Manitowoc, Marinette, Calumet, Outagamie, Fond du Lac, Shawano, Oconto, Winnebago, Dodge, Sheboygan, Washington, Ozaukee, Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha.

- Probationary license
- If your Probationary license is expiring, you may use this online application to switch to a regular license.
- You can apply up to 90 days prior to the Probationary license expiring.
- The license cannot be expired over a year.
Requirements:
- You are a US Citizen
- You are 64 years of age or younger
- You hold a Class D or Class DM license only
You will NOT be able to use this online process to renew your regular or Probationary license if:
- You would like to make changes, such as
- change an eyeglass or contact lens restriction
- update a personal identifier (e.g. weight or hair color)
- a legal name change occurred since your driver license was last issued
- update or disclose an
invisible disability
- update your photo, your photo is not on file, or does not meet current DMV photo standards
- You would like to apply for an original (first time)
REAL ID-compliant driver license
- You hold a Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- Your Federal Medical Card (Fed Med) is expired or any class or endorsement of the commercial driver license (CDL) is voluntarily surrendered
- Your driver license has been expired for more than one year
- You are not a U.S. citizen and/or do not have a
verifiable Social Security number on record with DMV
- Your driver license was/is suspended, revoked or canceled or you received a violation in another state.
If any of these restrictions above apply to you, you will need to renew your driver license in-person at a
DMV Customer Service Center.
Please bring with you:
- Your current driver license card
- Know your Social Security number
- Your
MV3001 Wisconsin Driver License application (will also be available at the service center)
You may use this online system to apply for a duplicate license.

Have the following items ready:
Your Wisconsin driver license number, the last four digits of your Social Security Number (or your full Social Security Number if you don't have your Wisconsin driver license number available), your date of birth and your zip code.
If you are under the age of 18, adult
sponsorship will be required. You will be asked to provide your adult sponsor information, including their driver license or ID card number, during this transaction.

Quick reminders:

Change of address. This application will allow you to update your Wisconsin residence and/or mailing address.

Mandatory insurance. No person may operate a vehicle in Wisconsin unless the owner or driver of the vehicle has liability insurance in effect for the vehicle being operated and carries proof of insurance whenever driving. Failure to have insurance could result in a fine of up to $500. Proof of insurance is not required for the issuance of a duplicate driver license. See

REAL ID. To get a REAL ID-compliant license, you must visit a DMV and present all the
required documents.
Note: Your request for a driver license or instruction permit is
not complete until you receive a confirmation message at the end of the transaction.
Once the online transaction is completed you cannot cancel the transaction nor receive a refund.
What happens next?

Receipt: A receipt, including your photo, will be emailed to you upon successful completion of this online transaction. This receipt is acceptable photo identification for voting and serves as your driver license until your card arrives in the mail. Adobe Reader 6.0 or higher is required to view and print driver license receipts. If you do not have a printer but wish to obtain a receipt, please contact DMV Communication Center at (608) 264-7447.

Timing. Your driver license will be processed and mailed to you through the USPS using first class mail. If you have not received your driver license within 10 business days, please contact DMV Communication Center at (608) 264-7447.
