First Wisconsin driver licenses and identification cards are mailed

Customers age 18 or over who are applying for their first Wisconsin driver license or identification card will receive their license/card in the mail within 10 business days. A receipt, including your photo, will be issued to you at the time of the transaction. This receipt is acceptable photo identification for voting and serves as your license or ID until your card arrives in the mail.

This procedure was implemented to help reduce the potential for identity theft and fraud.

If applying for renewal, you will be handed your renewed Wisconsin driver license or identification card at the DMV customer service center at the time of the transaction.
